Transfer Tapes to Digital

Depending on how bad the mould is, the quality of the tapes might be affected but they are usually still very watchable (Sometimes perfect..) and can certainly be saved.

This usually isn’t a problem and the tape can be stuck back together. If the cassette is damaged, it may need to be re-housed. Sometimes tapes can become sticky and continue to break, even after being stuck back together, but this is rarely the case.

The standard memory sticks I use hold up to 60 hours of video. However, there are larger sticks that will hold more is necessary.

We charge €20 per hour of tape + €20 per USB stick provided (High quality SanDisk for high reliabilty).

Your memory stick will seamlessly plug and play in any modern television. It can also be plugged into a laptop where the files can be copied, shared and stored on the cloud.

Each tape will be numbered and will have a corresponding .mp4 video file of the same number. You can also number the tapes yourself if you would prefer to have them in a specific order. If they have been labeled with dates, I try to keep them in that order.

Depending on the amount of tapes and the time of the year it can be 1-2 weeks. Before Christmas it could be 3 or more weeks. If Christmas is coming up soon, Get the tapes to me ASAP if you want to have them over the holidays. It’s a great present, but you’d be suprised how many other people have the same idea!

Unlike tapes, digital media and the devices that hold it can be quite fickle and can corrupt over time. Once it becomes corrupted, it can not be retrieved. It is highly recommended that you make many copies of your videos. This can be done by copying to multuple USB sticks, external hard drives or storing on the cloud.

I transfer all types of consumer camcorder tapes, cassettes and media (VHS, VHS-C, Hi8, Video8, Mini DV, DVDs, CDs, old hard drives). I’m not currently transferring 8/16mm film reels.

I completely understand and recognise the importance of the task. I have been transferring and digitising tapes for over 20 years.
